Reutlingen region

TYPO3 Agency Reutlingen

The Neckar-Alb region combines exporting mid-sized companies with an internationally minded university and, a few kilometres further on in Tübingen, one of the densest medical and life sciences landscapes in the country. Three worlds, three sets of requirements.

Exporting begins with the structure

Mid-sized firms with customers across half of Europe all face the same task: the website has to work in several languages without maintaining it turning into a second full-time job.

The mistake made most often is too much too early. Creating five language versions is quick; keeping them current is not something anyone manages on the side. So we recommend cutting the multilingual area deliberately small and maintaining it completely. The decisions behind that are set out in the guide on multilingual sites.

Two neighbouring cities, two sets of requirements

Reutlingen and Tübingen sit close together and still pose different tasks. Here product communication, sales support and export markets. There research sites with many departments, distributed editorial teams, and the accessibility obligation of publicly funded institutions.

For us that does not mean two approaches but the same care in different places: fine-grained permissions and workspaces there, data structures and interfaces here.

Close enough for an afternoon

Feuerbach to Reutlingen is a good half hour. That makes on-site meetings straightforward: a kick-off in the morning, editorial training in the afternoon, without anybody losing a whole day.

What stays remote all the same is the development, in Git, with a preview environment and sign-off before go-live.

Common questions

Do you look after Tübingen too?

Yes, we treat Neckar-Alb as one region. Reutlingen and Tübingen are a few kilometres apart; one meeting combines easily with a second.

The cases differ considerably in substance, though: Reutlingen is more often about product communication and export, Tübingen about research sites with many editorial teams and an accessibility obligation.

Our customers are spread across half of Europe. How many languages make sense?

As few as possible and as many as necessary. Every language version wants maintaining, and experience says the second one slips first.

What works is an honest decision about which areas genuinely have to be multilingual. Often it is enough to translate the product pages and the contact details while the news section stays in one language. The technical decisions are set out under multilingual sites.

How quickly can you be on site?

A good forty minutes from Stuttgart-Feuerbach. That makes Reutlingen one of the closest points in the area we cover after the Stuttgart region itself.

We are glad to come for kick-offs, workshops and training; the daily work runs remotely. We use meetings in person where they genuinely beat a call.
